REVANS, SAMUEL, brother of John Revans (qv); b. 3 Apr 1808; adm. 16 Jan 1821; trained as a printer; emigrated to Montreal 1833, where he helped to found the first Canadian daily newspaper; returned to England 1837; arrived in New Zealand 7 Mar 1840; editor, New Zealand Gazette 1840-3; owned sheep run 1847 onwards; member, New Zealand Parliament 1853-5, 1856-8; d. unm. at Greytown, New Zealand 15 Jul 1888.
