Son of James Smyth Scott, Q.C., of Dublin, by Louise, daughter of the Hon. and Most Rev. Charles Brodrick, Archbishop of Cashel; born Jan. 18, 1825; educated at Eton and Trin. Coll. Camb., where he graduated B.A. 1848, M.A. 1851, B.D. 1860, and D.D. 1867; Pitt Univ. Scholar 1847; Senior Classic, Senior Chancellor's Medallist, and 22nd Wrangler 1848; Le Bas Prize 1849; Fellow of Trinity College 1849; ordained 1854; succeeded Liddell as Head Master Sept. 1855; appointed a Prebendary of St. Paul's 1874; elected an honorary student of Ch. Ch. Oxon. 1875; resigned the Head Mastership Aug. 1883; married Dec. 19, 1855, Susan Georgiana, youngest daughter of Edward Smyth, of Norwich; died Dec. 7, 1894.
