Lincoln’s Inn 8 Oct 1741, King’s Inns, Dublin 1746; called to Irish bar; KC (I) (occurs 1774); a Commissioner of Appeals (I) 1763-75; Master in Chancery (I) [check]; Admiralty Advocate (I) (occurs 1774, 1781); MP (I) Dundalk (occurs 1774-6); [Sheriff, City of Dublin 1772, Alderman 1773, Lord Mayor 1784-5, but this may have been a different James Shiel]; m.; d. 10 Jul 1792.
