St.Peter’s Sch., York, and Christ Church, Oxford, matr. 13 Oct 1865, aged 19, Junior Student 1865-70 ; BA 1868 ; Demonstrator and Lecturer in Natural Philosophy, King’s Coll.London 1870-94, Fellow King’s Coll. 1894 ; Assistant Master (Science) May 1872 – Aug 1882 ; Principal, South-Western Polytechnic, Chelsea Oct 1894-1904 ; latterly living in Bexhill, Sussex ; FRS 6 Jun 1889 ; author of some forty papers on theoretical physics ; m. 31 Mar 1873 Edith Maria Ruth, dau. of F.W.Saunders ; d. 12 Jun 1931.
