        WALTER, ABEL, eldest son of John Walter MP, Woking, Surrey, and Lucy, dau. of Col. Abel Alleyne, Speaker of Assembly, Barbados, West Indies; b.; adm. (aged 14) Nov 1715; in under school list 1717; of Baddesley, Hampshire; lic. to m. 23 Jan 1729 Hon. Jane Nevill, dau. of George Nevill, 11th Baron Abergavenny; buried Bath Abbey 15 Oct 1767.

        Owner of Mount Wilton estate in Barbados, which had 208 enslaved people in 1939. 'John Walter, MP for Surrey 1719 - 1727 and son of Richard Walter merchant of Barbados, left the bulk of his Caribbean and English estates to his eldest son Abel and the American interests to his younger sons. His bequests of 1736 included land, ‘cattle and negroes’.'
