WOOD, THOMAS, son of Thomas Wood, Hackney, Middlesex, Clerk of the Spicery to James I, and Susan Cranmer; bapt. 22 Jul 1607; adm.; KS ; elected to Christ Church, Oxford 1627, Westminster Student 22 Dec 1627 – still 1638, matr. 1627; BA 1631; MA 1634 (incorp. Cambridge 1638); BD 1641; DD 13 Mar 1641/2; ordained; Chaplain in Ordinary to Charles I 1635; Rector of Whickham, co. Durham 1635-51, ejected, but restored 1660; Prebendary of Durham from 10 Dec 1660; Chaplain in Ordinary to Charles II 1660; Dean of Lichfield Feb 1663/4-71; consecrated Bishop of Cioventry and Lichfield 2 Jul 1671; neglected his duties and lived in a mean way at Hackney; suspended by Archbishop Sancroft for refusing to return to his diocese; a benefactor to Christ Church, Oxford; m. Grace, dau. of Sir James Clavering, Bart.; d. 18 Apr 1692.
