YATES, JAMES, son of Rev. Thomas Yates DD, Vicar of Charlton, Oxfordshire, and Anne, dau. of Richard Sutton, Finchley, Middlesex; twin brother of Thomas Yates (qv); b. 21 Apr 1717; adm. (aged 8) Apr 1725; Min. Can. 1731; KS 1732; elected to Christ Church, Oxford 1737, matr. 14 Jun 1737, Westminster Student 24 Dec 1737 – expelled 28 Sep 1742, having been suspended from taking degree for a year and admonished for scandalous behaviour 28 Jun 1742; BA 1742.
