Oxford, matr. 11 Dec 1745; Cornet, 7th Dragoons 25 Jan 1752; Lieut., 26 Dec 1755; Capt., 31st Foot 28 Jun 1756; ret. 1759; Col., Northamptonshire Militia 10 Jan 1763-84, with rank of Col. in Army during service 2 Jul 1779; succ. brother as 3rd Earl of Sussex 8 Jan 1758; carried golden spurs at coronation of George III 22 Sep 1760 (as 18th Baron Grey de Ruthyn); m. 1st, 17 Jan 1757 Hester, dau. of John Hall, Mansfield Woodhouse, Notts.; m. 2nd, 29 Jan 1778 Mary, dau. of John Vaughan, Bristol; d. 22 Apr 1799.
