Archival history

Recorded by Sargeaunt in 1921 as being lent by the governors of the school. An engraving was made of this work by Mc Ardell, and much of the detail on the actual painting is now obscured. Another portrait of Nicoll is in the school's collection

Three-quarters length portrait of Nicoll standing, turned to the left, wearing academic dress, collar and wig; his right hand holds a cap with a glove in it, while his left is in his pocket.
