Ashburnham House Ledger 1937-1953

This ledger was kept by the Head of House and gives details of new boys and boys who had left, sporting results and accounts of matches, comments on the characters of previous heads of house, monitors and house masters, names of those who received colours, details of the 'Ash Tree' (the House magazine), details of plays performed by the House, accounts of music competitions and any other events which the Heads thought interesting to record. Early entries give details of the House's evacuation to Lancing and Exeter. Some entries give general notes and summaries of previous years or terms and details of discipline within the House. At the front of the volume are details of Head of House, Monitors, Housemasters and the names of those who gained pinks. At the end of the volume is a list of those who gained double pinks and any captaincies they held. \r\n\r\nThe entries from Play Term 1942 -Election term 1949 are titled' Homeburnham', after Ashburnham and Homeboarders amalgamated into one House between 1941-1949. After 1949 the entries proceed to be solely for Ashburnham House, after the Houses split again. Some entries have house lists inserted with them. There are also newspaper cuttings inserted, one of which give details of a visit to Westminster School by the King and Queen. The last entry is continued in the next volume.

Ashburnham House Black Book

This book gives details of punishments given to the boys for bad behaviour each term. Entries include the name of the boys receiving punishment, the date, the offence, the punishment they received and any other remarks. There is a list at the start of each term with the names of the Head of House and the monitors who administered the punishments. When strokes were given the initials of the monitor who carried out the punishment are noted. At the end of each term there are general notes on discipline within the House. \r\n\r\nIn Play Term 1941 Homeboarders House was amalgamated with Ashburnham House and so there are two sets of monitors until Play Term 1942 when complete amalgamation between the two Houses took place and they were known as Homeburnham. In Play Term 1943 Homeburnham partially amalgamated with Busby's House until Play Term 1945 and some entries include punishments in Busby's.\r\n

Ashburnham House Ledger 1953-1960

The first entry is continued from the previous volume. This ledger was kept by the Head of House, in which they would note down details of boys who arrived and left each year, those who received the House colours, details of the 'Ash Tree' (the House magazine), comments on the characters of members of the House, comments on discipline within the House, details of sporting results, art events and music competitions, general notes and summaries of events in the House and anything else the Head of House thought interesting. Some entries describe the Play Supper. At the front of the volume are details of Housemasters, Heads of House, Monitors and the names of those who were awarded pinks and double pinks. Those awarded double pinks are also listed at the back of the volume. Inserted throughout the volume are house lists as well as notes by a researcher. There is also a list of members of Ashburnham who were killed in the Second World War inserted towards the end.
