Camb. 1681); BCL and DCL 1687; ordained deacon (Oxford) 21 Sep 1679, priest 25 Sep 1680; Chaplain to Lord Mayor of London 1683; Rector of Sywell, Northants., 2 Feb 1684/5 - 1707; Lecturer, St. Mary at Hill, London 1691; Preacher, Highgate Chapel from 16 Jun 1695; Rector of Shepperton, Middlesex, from 30 Sep 1707; Rector of Hornsey, Middlesex, from 3 Mar 1719/20; Chaplain in Ordinary to Queen Anne and George I; was refused the post of Archdeacon of Rochester in 1720 by his brother Francis, who considered that such an appointment would have been “the most unseemly indecent thing in the world”; author, several volumes of sermons, and two translations from the French; lic. to m. 24 Dec 1688 Penelope, dau. of John Bedingfeld, Isleworth, Middlesex; d. 20 Oct 1731.
