Grant's

This collection contains a variety of material relating to Grant's House. There are four House ledgers which record events in the House including details of sports, societies and plays performed by the House. As well as these ledgers there are sports ledgers which record in more detail events such as cricket and football matches. Also in the collection are administrational records which give details of the members of the House, financial accounts of the money received and spent by the House and the rules and customs of the House. A significant part of the collection is composed of the Grant's House magazine 'The Grantite Review' of which there is a comprehensive collection. Another part of the collection concerns the history of Grant's and contains details of pupils and teachers during the nineteenth century. Finally, the collection contains details of the 'Old Grantite Club', a group for alumnus of Grant's House which includes details of members, committee meetings and publications on the history of Grant's House.

Westminster School

Production of the Latin Play

Papers relating to the arrangements for the production and performance of the Latin Play. Includes cast lists, sketches and drawings for scenery, Epilogues and Prologues spoken at performances of the play and samples of programmes and tickets for the play. Also includes lists of names and addresses of individuals to receive tickets, production notes covering all aspects of rehearsal and performance and draft seating plans and arrangements for individual performances.

Publications

This series contains 'The Grantite Review' and 'The Grantite Gazette'. 'The Grantite Review' was the House magazine and was begun in 1884. Later, in Election term 1994, 'The Grantite Gazette' was started with the aim of producing one or two editions a year so the 'Grantite Review' could be produced once every five years. Both magazines were distributed within the House and to Old Grantites.

The Grantite Review

'The Grantite Review' was started in 1884 and was the House magazine of Grant's. It contained news about the House including, students who had left and arrived at the House, sporting results and achievements, details of the house play, letters, poems and news about the 'Old Grantite Club'. It was distributed within the House and to Old Grantites. Later issues include adverts and there are inserts in some editions.

The Latin Play

This sub-series contains papers and documents relating to the production and reception of the Westminster School Latin Play. It includes records relating to the logistical planning, administration, production and performance of the Latin Play.

Also included in the series are papers concerning the history and background to the Latin Play including research done internally and externally and material relating to protests against its abolition.

The collection is incomplete and dates mainly from 1850-1939, with a small amount of earlier and later material.

Reception of the Latin Play

Records and correspondence relating to research on the history of the Latin Play, and to the issue of its continuation. Includes articles and correspondence, and correspondence and records relating to protests made by parents and former pupils against the abolition of the tradition of the Latin Play.

Finance

Financial records of the club. N.B. Termly payments were payed by pupils' parents whilst at school so they could gain life time membership of the club when they left.
