Jul 1731; went to Eton Coll. 1732; styled Earl of Dalkeith 1732-50; Christ Church, Oxford, matr. 27 Oct 1739; MA 26 Jan 1741/2; LLD Cambridge 1749; MP Boroughbridge from 22 Apr 1746; m. 2 Oct 1742 Lady Caroline Campbell (afterwards Baroness Greenwich), eldest dau. of John Campbell, 2nd Duke of Argyll KG KT, Field Marshal in the Army; d. 1 Apr 1750.
